Just a month from the big day, the festive season is in full swing in the western suburbs with communities gearing up to celebrate Christmas free from COVID-19 event restrictions.

Subiaco’s Christmas Cocktail Crawl kicks off today — Thursday, November 24 — and continues until Christmas Day, with 10 bars and restaurants whipping up special festive treats to entice patrons across town.

Visitors can get merry on a tasting tour of the town with stops at Little Things Gin, Subi Hotel, Accent Cafe, El Peruvian, La Condesa, Dilly Dally, Bark, Bar Amelie, Lums and The Unicorn Bar.

Hay Street’s new addition Lums Wine Bar will be pouring its Drunken Snowman cocktail featuring raspberry sorbet, traditional method sparkling burgundy and creme de cassis.

“We did it at Bark last year, and we had so many people just actively seeking out all the cocktails and wanting to try something new,” co-owner Mitchell Jenkin said.

“It gives an opportunity for all the venues to do something playful over Christmas — had a great response last time.”

Subiaco mayor David McMullen said it was great to see businesses bringing new life to the town centre.

“This is the first Christmas in a while that has been relatively COVID-free, so we are expecting a lot of traffic through the doors at the participating venues and hopefully a good number of visitors coming in from outside of the suburb as well,” he said.

“I never get sick of people saying that it’s great to see Subiaco really picking up … I think you can walk the streets and see that it is very much true and its all happening here.”
