Giants Rookie Mocks Commander for Passing on Him in Draft

New York Giants rookie cornerback Deonte Banks got the last laugh against the Washington Commanders when he helped sweep the team that passed on him in the NFL Draft.

Despite the Giants having one of the worst records in the NFL, the team has still managed to beat the NFC East rival Commanders. The upset wins account for two of the Giants’ three wins this season.

After the most recent win on Sunday, Banks got on Instagram Live to throw it in the Commanders’ faces for deciding not to take him in the 2023 NFL Draft.

“You could’ve came and got me at (no. 16) and they didn’t,” Banks said. “Now I’m 2-0 against you bum-ass boys. Fuck the Commanders. They think they’re slick. They’re gonna see me two times a year til the end of my career. Two times a year. Should’ve came and got me.”

After the Commanders passed on him with the 16th pick in the draft, the Giants selected him with the 24th. This season, Banks has caught one interception and deflected nine passes. He also has 39 tackles.

The 22-year-old continued rubbing it in the Commanders’ faces when he implied he shut down star receiver Terry McLaurin.

“Did (no. 17) play today?” Banks asked his viewers on Instagram. “That’s all I wanna know. Did he play today? Did he play? I just wanna know if he played.”

It’s not uncommon for professional athletes to play with a chip on their shoulder by seeking revenge against the teams that didn’t draft them. Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown famously wrote down the names of the 16 receivers taken before him in the 2021 draft.
