A 38-year-old man died Thursday night after he was hit by a Jeep while he was walking on a busy Monmouth County highway, investigators announced Friday.

The man, who was not identified, was in the left lane of the southbound side of State Highway 35 near Valley Road in Ocean Township when he was hit around 8:15 p.m. by the 2015 Wrangler, according to a statement from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

The man was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:59 p.m., the office said.

The 66-year-old woman who was driving the Jeep remained at the scene and has not been charged or issued any summonses as of Friday afternoon, authorities said.
