NBA Fan Gets Injured Attempting Half-Court Shot

An NBA fan’s half-court shot ended in probably the worst way possible when he sustained what appeared to be a serious injury during the attempt.

During a timeout of the Los Angeles Lakers’ Sunday game against the Houston Rockets, a fan named Anthony was given the chance to knock down the long-distance shot for $55,000. When the Lakers emcee introduced Anthony and asked how he felt about the shot, he was brimming with confidence.

“This is what I do,” Anthony said as he pointed at the rim in a similar fashion to Babe Ruth’s legendary call.

That confidence couldn’t have been more misplaced as he completely air-balled the shot.

In Anthony’s defense, however, he appeared to get injured just before releasing the ball. Immediately after the attempted, he limped away and grabbed his left leg as he fell to the ground.

Things got awkward when the emcee didn’t realize what happened.

“You had the distance,” the emcee said in reaction to the shot. “Anthony, come back.”

“Uh oh… Let’s get you up, Anthony. You didn’t get it from half-court, but we’re gonna give you a chance to shoot it from the 3-point line.”

The emcee helped Anthony up, but the fan was struggling to walk. Anthony then started rubbing around his ankle with his hand, indicating the injury was somewhere on that part of his body. Finally, the emcee realized the fan was seriously hurt and ended the contest. A security guard escorted Anthony, who was still struggling just to move around, off the court.
