The European Championships were a rollercoaster for Alica Schmidt.

Schmidt, a German track & field star, was brought to tears after learning she was selected to compete at the European Championships.

The 23-year-old athlete — who has been dubbed “the World’s Sexiest Athlete” by a number of supporters and websites — qualified for the 400m semifinals in her home country on Monday.

Schmidt finished third in her heat in Munich to reach the semifinals.

“I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere at the stadium and to compete myself knowing that my friends and family will be cheering me on at the stadium,” Schmidt told German outlet Sport1.

“Made it into the European semi finals ❤️‍🔥😍 that was the goal, now I can enjoy running one more time in front of a home crowd today ✨ truly one of the most special moments ever 🥰 ,” Schmidt wrote on Instagram after securing her spot in the semi-finals.

In a separate post on Instagram last week, Schmidt called it her “most special race yet.”

Unfortunately for Schmidt, she finished last in the 400m semi-final, which took place on Tuesday. She will now prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympic Summer Games.

Schmidt recently competed at the World Championships last month in Eugene, Oregon.

Schmidt has come a long way since last summer when she said she was “taking a break” from track & field after she was left off the Olympic team despite traveling to Tokyo for the Games.
