Drivers have been warned after at least one car overturned on a motorway.
The incident is believed to have happened on the M66 northbound exit slip road near Junction 3 at around 7.45pm on Tuesday evening.
Eye witnesses reported seeing emergency services including police cars and fire engines called to the scene, with National Highways North West confirming that the incident involved an overturned vehicle and that traffic is likely to be effected as a result.
A statement said: “The event is expected to clear between 9.45pm and 10pm on January 24 2023”
It added: “Normal traffic conditions are expected between 9.45pm and 10pm on January 24 2023.”
It is not yet known if any other vehicles have been effected or if anyone has been injured.
All three lanes on the section of motorway were shut as a result of the incident with drivers warned to allow extra time for their journeys.
Anyone who witnesses any kind of accident on the roads, particularly on the motorways has been urged to call the emergency services as soon as it is safe to do so on 999.
In less urgent situations, witnesses have been urged to call emergency services on 101.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for more information.
