A 19-year-old Highland man was arrested Friday in connection with five armed robberies at restaurants, gas stations, and a convenience stores within a 12-hour period, authorities said.

James Hutchinson IV was identified as the suspect after investigators discovered the license plate of his vehicle during his last robbery as a gas station.

On Thursday just after 9:30 p.m. police responded to the first report of an armed robbery at a local restaurant. Less than an hour later, the same suspect is believed to have robbed a local convenience store and then a gas station later that night.

There was a fourth robbery at a local restaurant around 12:20 a.m. Aug. 5, and then the final robbery at the gas station.

Police identified Hutchinson as the suspect in all five armed robberies after finding a handgun that police said linked Hutchinson to the crimes.

Highland police Capt. Casey Jiles said in a tweet that a sixth robbery occurred in Fontana where Hutchinson worked, but no further details were provided.

He was taken into custody without incident. Money was also recovered, but police did not disclose how much was taken.
