A burger joint widely rated as one of Brisbane’s best vegan restaurants is set to shut its doors, citing inflationary pressures.
Grassfed at South Brisbane’s Fish Lane precinct has been serving up plant-based burgers, loaded fries and desserts since 2018.
Its owners announced its September 25 closure via social media.

“We wanted to give you as much notice as possible to ensure you have enough time to visit before we close,” co-owners Leizl Estioko and her partner Jonny Garrison wrote.
“A huge thank you for your incredible support and the happy memories you have given us.
“You’ll see more soppy posts from us as we draw nearer to our closing date.
“One thing is for sure … we will definitely miss you.”
Customers being a “bit more conscious with their spending” and the “cost of everything going up” — including produce, rent and wages — mean the couple are no longer able to make a liveable profit from the restaurant, Estioko told the Courier Mail.
“We’re not a high-end restaurant who can charge more. You can’t be charging $30 or $40 for burgers and fries, so how can we still make a living if we make a profit margin of 50c a dish?” she told the newspaper.
The couple also want to spent more time with their young family.
“Our family is also incredibly important to us and it has come to a point in our lives where we want to be able to focus more on our family,” they said.
“We have made the decision to reduce our workload to allow for more time and energy with the ones we love most – life is short!”

However, responding to social media media, they said they are looking to continue operating their food truck at their other venture, the Queensland Vegan Markets.
They would also be interested in selling the business “if the right buyer comes along”.
