13-Year-Old In Dodge Challenger Leads Florida Police On 140 MPH Chase At 4 A.M.

  • Police initially pulled over the 13-year-old before the child led officers on a five-mile 140-mph chase.
  • Authorities reported no injuries as a result of the chase and booked the child into jail afterward.
  • The youngster is only the latest to end up facing serious consequences after driving illegally.

A Florida Highway Patrolman’s routine traffic stop around 3:40 am took a sharp turn when a red Dodge Challenger sped off as he approached the vehicle. After a five-mile chase, the driver finally pulled over, revealing a surprising sight to authorities in Collier County: a 13-year-old boy behind the wheel.

The child’s erratic lane movements likely caught the FHP officer’s attention, prompting the initial traffic stop. Reports suggest that when they fled from the traffic stop, they didn’t seem confused. FHP indicates that the boy turned off his lights and reached speeds of 140 mph (225 km/h) during the chase.

Thankfully, he didn’t hurt anyone or get hurt himself as he pulled over five miles after the initial interaction. Police took him into custody at the intersection of Immokalee Road and Quarry Drive. They booked him into jail for fleeing law enforcement and for driving without a license. The car in question is his stepfather’s vehicle. This is far from the only recent case of a teen making bad decisions in a car.

Several similar incidents have already happened this year. Only a few weeks ago, a 17-year-old led police on a chase in his mother’s white Chevrolet Camaro. Just days before the incident with this Dodge Challenger, a 19-year-old attempted to evade Florida police in a Ford Mustang.

Moreover, early this month another 13-year-old in Canada wrecked a Lamborghini Huracan while joyriding at night in the rain. In that case, the boy fled the scene before officers arrived. They too faced a litany of charges associated with the accident.
