2024 Mazda BT-50 gets more off-road gear, wider range

Mazda Australia has updated the BT-50 ute with a new feature aimed at buyers who love to go off-roading, as well as a more luxuriously appointed cab-chassis variant.

All 16 variants of the BT-50 with 4×4 will now be equipped with Rough Terrain Mode, an off-road traction control aid previously seen on the mechanically related Isuzu MU-X SUV and D-Max ute.

Rough Terrain Mode works in tandem with the locking rear differential and hill descent control system to better modulate throttle and brake inputs, preventing wheelspin by sending power to the wheels with the most grip.

It can be engaged by pressing a button located next to the gear shifter.

Additional changes to the ute’s lineup include the addition of a dual-cab-chassis option for the GT variant, priced from $61,260 before on-road costs – or $3380 more than the XTR dual-cab-chassis.

Compared to the XTR, the GT adds brown leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with heating, remote engine start, front parking sensors and heated chrome exterior mirrors.

Elsewhere in the range, XS and XT grades now benefit from the addition of auto relocking – triggered if the doors haven’t been opened within a certain amount of time from being unlocked – while the XTR’s lights and audio system can remain powered after the engine is shut off.

Unfortunately it looks like we’ll miss out on a range of tweaks recently announced for the Thai-market BT-50, such as a revised grille and front bumper, as well as paddle shifters and wireless Android Auto.

Standard pricing across the Mazda BT-50 range remains unchanged, apart from the BT-50 SP which has increased by $30 to $68,660 before on-road costs.

A limited-time drive-away pricing offer has also been announced for ABN holders.

Until June 30, the BT-50’s 4×4 XT dual-cab pickup manual and SP dual-cab 4×4 automatic variants are priced from $49,990 and $64,670 drive-away, respectively.
