NFL free agency is here, with the legal tampering window opening at noon ET on Monday and the new league year beginning Wednesday at 4 p.m.
These are my updated rankings and scouting reports of the top 150 free agents available, shaped by a ton of film work and perspective from many years leading NFL personnel departments. This might not be exactly how you see it, but that’s why Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavors.
The ages listed are as of Sept. 5, the scheduled date of the 2024 season opener. At each position, I’ve included some stats I find valuable. At some positions, I’ve estimated play speed from what I can see on tape (not timed 40-yard dash speed — there is a difference). The Jaguars owe the Falcons a 2024 third-round pick from the 2022 trade for Ridley, but if they extend him before free agency opens, that would become a second-rounder. His lateral range has suffered some due to the injuries, but his physical presence sends a message to the opposition. — Mueller

He offers precisely what many modern defenses seek, with the size of a linebacker and the athleticism to drop deep as a safety. The Patriots used the transition tag on Dugger, giving them the ability to match any offer, but they will not receive compensation if they decline to match an offer. — Chad Graff

From a football standpoint, I actually this makes sense and is a good fit. Arthur Smith’s offense is heavy on the run game, RPOs and play-action passes, which help facilitate straightforward reads and allow the quarterback to predeterminine targets in the pass game. That suits Wilson’s skills well at this point. The Steelers already have some leaders on that roster, so it won’t be the “Russell show,” but yet he could bring a bit of been-there, done-that confidence to the offense. His personality also might fit better with Mike Tomlin and Smith than it did with Sean Payton, which might be as important as his skill set at this point. I don’t think this move means Kenny Pickett is gone, just maybe a chance to take a step back and watch. — Mueller
