In a revenge announcement, a groom’s brother announced his wife was pregnant during a welcome-to-family toast.
This, of course, sparked a major family fallout, but not for reasons you may think.
Ben, not his real name, posted to Reddit that his brother Dave, also not his real name, had asked if he could propose at this wedding.
“I told him no. That day was about my wife and myself, and we did not want any distractions,” Ben said.
He then explained on Reddit that this upset his mum, who said if Dave wanted to propose in front of family, he should be able to.
Ben was outraged and said if the brother went ahead, he would kick him out of the wedding.
“He did it. And my mom said if I tried kicking him out, she would leave too,” he said.
It was Dave’s turn to get married last week, and Ben and his wife decided to stir the pot in response.
“My brother got married last weekend. Instead of a welcome to the family toast, I used the time to announce that we were expecting our first baby,” Ben said.
“My mom was upset, but my grandmother told her to sit down and shut up. We spent most of the reception talking to family we would not see again for a while about our coming baby.
“My mom says I was an a**hole for taking attention away from my brother on his wedding day.”
The post quickly gained attention, amassing 40 thousand reactions and over two thousand comments.
Commenters seemed to be on the side of the original poster.
“His grandma was the true MVP 👏. NTA, btw, the brother and his mother were out of line, and he did warn him not to do it, and he did it. Actions bring consequences,” one person said.
Another wrote: “The tidbit about grandma is funny. I’d like to know more!”
The original poster dropped another bombshell in the comments, letting fans know “fun fact: my wife is not pregnant”.
