Agonising ovary condition made me feel suicidal – but I turned my life around & have helped dozens of women get pregnant

A FORMER cop who became suicidal due to a painful ovary condition has helped dozens of women become pregnant after turning her life around.

Nikki Thornton, 42, had struggled for much of her life with the condition that left her overweight an enduring a “life of misery”.

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are often insulin resistant, increasing their risk of developing diabetes.

The condition affects around one in 10 women, according to the NHS.

Sufferers’ ovaries become enlarged, and they experience excessive male hormones, which can lead to irregular periods, facial hair and difficulty getting pregnant.

Nikki, who is only 5ft tall, tipped the scales at 16 stone and was diagnosed with PCOS when she was 21.

The ex-special constable, from Forfar, Angus, said: “I had lived a nightmare life with it. I was severely overweight and couldn’t get rid of the symptoms.

“There was no help from the doctor. I was really depressed and suicidal.

“I struggled to get pregnant. I had been through a lot of hardship.

“I used to drink a bottle of wine and eat takeaways every night to hide the pain. I was basically living a life of misery.”

Fed up, Nikki decided to take her health into her own hands and started eating healthier and working out.

After shedding nearly eight stone, she said people started approaching her at the gym for weight-loss advice.

The mum-of-three ditched the police force and became a personal trainer, before choosing to help other women struggling with PCOS.

Nikki now has her own company, PCOS Revolution, where she runs fertility workshops and a six-month programme to help women with the condition get healthier and have children.

She currently coaches 100 women to lose weight, balance their hormones, and get their periods back.

Nikki, who has helped more than 60 women become mothers, has over 167,000 followers on TikTok, where she offers free advice.

She said: “I lost 70 pounds in the first 11 months. Once I started losing weight, my symptoms started disappearing.

“When I was 36 I really doubled down on the polycystic ovary side of things. It affects millions of women all over the world.

“And it’s not even just getting pregnant, it’s living a normal life. It can have linked conditions like heart disease, kidney failure, severe acne, gallbladder problems, and diabetes.

“Earlier this year I started my own programme because I wanted to help women. It blew up on TikTok.”

She added: “The results are amazing. I have helped over 60 women get pregnant.

“Almost on a daily basis, I get messages thanking me. I’m helping lots of women from America, Dubai, Europe, Australia, Canada and Jamaica.

Nikki’s hard work has paid off, and she has been shortlisted for this year’s Business Women Scotland awards.

She will attend a glitzy ceremony in Glasgow on November 24.

Nikki said: “A friend told me one day that they’d nominated me for something. I kind of brushed it aside, then I got the email naming the top 100.

“I’m glad my friend decided to do it, because I wouldn’t have done it. I feel so honoured.”
