Arizona lands 5-star recruit Joson Sanon, potential NBA first-rounder who will reclassify to 2024

Joson Sanon, a five-star recruit who is ranked 11th in the nation in the Class of 2025, committed to Arizona on Wednesday and said he plans to reclassify to the Class of 2024. Sanon told ESPN he plans to graduate high school this summer and reclassify, which would make him eligible to enter the NBA Draft in 2025.

The 6-foot-5 wing is projected to be a first-round NBA Draft pick. He chose the Wildcats over offers from 17 other teams, including UConn, Indiana and Alabama.

“I love the fit, the way they score, how they get you open. They play at a fast pace, and being in the center of a high-powered offense was attractive,” Sanon said in an interview with ESPN. “I wanted to get locked in before things really get going with the transfer portal.”

Sanon, who attends Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vt., is the No. 2 small forward in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He will join a trio of stars who have already signed with Arizona in 2024: Carter Bryant (No. 21 overall), Jamari Phillips (No. 41 overall) and Emmanuel Stephen (No. 84).

The Wildcats are the No. 2 seed in the West region of the NCAA Tournament and will play their first game against No. 15 Long Beach State on Thursday. The Athletic’s Kyle Tucker and Brendan Marks include Arizona as one of a dozen teams that could realistically win the men’s tournament this year, as the Wildcats are one of only three teams that boast a top-10 offense and defense entering the Big Dance.
