Authors across Australia have submitted a staggering 5530 entries to the world’s biggest short story competition, the Best Australian Yarn — up nearly 20 per cent on last year.

The massive growth in interest has been matched by a big jump in prize money, with the writers competing for a rich $75,000 prize pool.
