Big W shopper’s baffling act after violent rampage stuns

A BIG W shopper’s violent attack at the entry to a popular Melbourne store has been captured on camera.

A video showing the concerning incident has been widely circulated on social media, prompting a stunned response from hundreds of thousands.

The footage shows the unidentified male repeatedly kicking at the security scanners at the front of BIG W Sunshine, while onlookers, staff and security watched on.

The man then starts aggressively grabbing at the barriers, before snapping them in half and bringing them to the ground.

The incident was captured on film by a bystander who was watching it unfold from the opposite side of the shopping centre.

But it is the bizarre actions of the disgruntled shopper after his wild attack that has left many scratching their heads.

After causing extensive damage to the store’s security scanners, he can then be seen picking up a BIG W catalogue from the ground, among the rubble, and heading back into the store to resume shopping.

“The way he walked off – like he was Kath from Kath & Kim,” one social media user noted.

Another said: “And then he goes shopping?”

One more added: “… and imma just gonna grab a catalogue.”

BIG W responds

A BIG W spokesperson has told 7NEWS.com.au that it was a disappointing incident for staff to witness.

They also called on customers to treat BIG W team members with respect at all times.

“Our first priority is always keeping our customers and team safe,” the spokesperson said.

“We are aware of this incident and can confirm that no one was hurt, and it was reported to the police.

“We are disappointed that a customer compromised the safety of our team and customers, and we continue to ensure everyone in our stores is treated with respect, and expect our customers to do the same when shopping in our stores.”
