Bill Maher, Billy Dee Williams Roast ‘Fragile’ Younger Generations

Comedian Bill Maher and actor Billy Dee Williams joined forces to take shots at younger generations, with the former calling them “house plants” and the latter suggesting they lack a sense of history.

Star Wars actor Williams joined Maher for his Club Random podcast and the discussion quickly turned to modern generations. It’s a common subject for Maher, who is critical and mocking of younger, “woke” liberals.

“I don’t know what this generation is about,” Williams said during a discussion about race and his own upbringing.

Maher called younger generations “fragile” and “house plants” who were “raised wrong.”

“What about misinformed?” Williams asked, accusing younger generations of lacking a “sense of history.”

“They do not know anything, but it’s not their fault because, you know, it’s not the responsibility of the child to instruct themselves,” Maher said. “I never had to worry about that in my little town, whatever color it was.”

The Real Time host accused younger generations of earning meaningless diplomas.

“We just went to school. You went to school… they taught you the basics; they taught you the shit. I didn’t leave that school until I knew basically everything that a normal, intelligent person should know. Not anything from Nobel Prize winner in literature or science, just a regular person would know these things and kids today know nothing. You don’t have to know anything and they will sign that diploma and kick you out the door,” he said.

Maher cited Gaza and Israel as subjects he finds younger Americans lacking knowledge on, but he said this “doesn’t sap their confidence.”

“Things have changed tremendously, but it doesn’t mean that it can’t be corrected,” Williams said.

Maher later circled back to young people and blasted youthful liberals who find communism appealing.

“That is what is so bad about the kids, getting back to that, not knowing anything. They think, oh, let’s give communism another try,” he said. “No, kids! We did try it! We did try it. Vladimir Lenin took over Moscow in 1917, and it was a long experiment and it was horrible, so we don’t need to try that again.”

“Well, I don’t know, we got Lucifer in the world right now,” Williams responded.

[Donald] Trump?” a confused Maher asked.

Williams would not say whether he was referring to Trump.

“I’m just saying Lucifer,” he said.

“Oh, you mean literally?” Maher asked.

“I’m just saying Lucifer,” Williams said.

“I know you’re saying it, and I know you’re wearing his coat,” Maher said, roasting his guest’s red jacket. The pair moved on from politics with Maher playfully accusing his guest of being “deliberately contrarian.”
