Bills soliciting shovelers hours before playoff game vs. Steelers

Highmark Stadium still looks like the North Pole just hours before the Bills-Steelers wild-card game Monday at 4:30 p.m.

The official Bills’ account on X posted another message that the organization is in need of more shovelers to help prepare Orchard Park for the game, which was postponed Saturday from Sunday to Monday due to a snowstorm and subsequent travel ban in Buffalo.

“Game day morning in Orchard Park,” the Bills account wrote Monday morning with a photo of a snowy stadium. “We still need shovelers to help get Highmark Stadium ready for today’s Super Wild Card game.”

They included an image of Orchard Park at Sunrise that showed the multiple bulldozers removing snow from the field — and the stands filled with piles of snow.

Fans were seen shoveling tons of snow in the upper bowl, where the seats were completely covered at Highmark Stadium early Monday morning, according to a video shared by TikTok user, htbway.

The snow was still coming down in the video, which showed multiple fans shoveling under the stadium lights.

After the travel ban was lifted, the Bills had shovelers in the stadium starting at midnight Sunday and overnight according to a news announcement they shared Monday morning.

“The County and State are authorizing individuals to travel to the stadium to assist in snow removal in order to ensure the stadium is safe before it opens to the public on Monday,” the Bills said.

Shovelers are required to be 18 years old and over (or under 18 with proper working papers), and will receive complimentary beverages and breakfast in the morning, as well as access to a warm break area.

The Bills’ initial ask for shovelers to help in the snow removal came Friday, when the game was still scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

The Buffalo area could still see another 3-6 inches of snow on Monday, according to the FOX Forecast Center.

Lake-effect snow bands are expected bring white-out conditions and gusty 40-50 mph winds, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
