Brian Cox would go into ‘terrifying’ rages on ‘Succession’: Sarah Snook

Life imitates art.

Emmy winner Sarah Snook revealed that her co-star Brian Cox was subject to a “diabetic rage” while filming the hit HBO show “Succession.”

“He has a habit of sometimes going into a false — or could it be real, who knows? — diabetic rage where he’ll go [growl] all of a sudden,” Snook, 36, told The Sunday Times on Tuesday.

“I think part of it’s a little of trying to just jolt the energy of the set and rustle a few feathers, get it going and moving faster,” the Austrailian-born actress continued. “The quality of his voice can be very terrifying sometimes.”

Snook, who played Cox’s daughter Shiv Roy in the HBO series, added that Cox’s voice was often “thunderous.”

This is not the first time that Cox’s former co-stars have detailed about his work ethic on set.

J Smith-Cameron, who played Roy’s lawyer Gerry Kellman, often said that Cox, 77, was sometimes “terrifying” to work with.

Additionally, Justine Lupe told the outlet that Cox was “incredibly intimidating.”

“Brian has moments of being incredibly intimidating on and off-camera,” Lupe, 34, who played Willa Ferreyra, said last year. “He’s got a power to him as a person and I think he knows that about himself. That being said, he’s also one of the more kind people that I’ve interacted with on set … He was always so supportive and sweet.”

Kieran Culkin, who recently won a Golden Globe for his portrayal as Roman Roy, revealed that the acting legend was prone to getting into screaming matches that imitated the volatile nature of Cox’s character, patriarch Logan Roy.

“The screaming, both of them with the screaming,” Culkin, 41, told Esquire Magazine in March 2023. “But with Logan it’s terrifying and with Brian it’s hilarious because there’s no actual weight behind it.”

“Even when he’s frustrated and he yells something, it makes everyone chuckle. He’s hungry and impatient,” the “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” alum went on.

Shortly after hearing Culkin’s comments, Cox admitted to ITV’s “This Morning”: “Yeah, I do get hangry because I’m diabetic.”

The actor later revealed he had been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.

“Succession ran from 2018 to 2023. Shortly before its dramatic Season 4 ending, Cox expressed his disbelief that Logan was killed off way too early.

“I was fine with it, ultimately, but I did feel a little bit rejected,” he said.

“You know, I felt a little bit, oh, all the work I’ve done and finally I’m going to, you know, end up as an ear on a carpet of a plane,” Cox added.

However, the “Braveheart” star admitted that Logan’s off-camera demise was done “in a pretty brilliant way,” although he took it “wrongly, as a form of rejection.”

The “James Bond” even thinks his character could still be alive.

“I still believe this: maybe Logan isn’t dead,” he said. “This could be part of an elaborate ruse to find out. Well, if you think about it, from Logan’s point of view, he has to find out, how are his children going to behave when he dies, what will then happen?”
