Bride and groom raise eyebrows over ‘disrespectful’ wedding rules

When you are invited to a wedding, you typically know not to pull focus from the bride and groom.

But one soon-to-be married couple felt the need to spell this out to their guests — along with providing a whole bunch of other suggestions.

The stipulations — 15 to be precise — were clearly listed on the invitations, under the heading ‘Wedding Rules.’

Rule No.1 aimed to make sure guests knew their place, suggesting invitees not make the day about anyone but the bride and groom.

“This is (their) big day, not yours,” it said.

Other rules included a dress code, not getting in the photographer’s way and not making any big announcements or proposals at the wedding.

There were also rules around ‘pacing’ the consumption of alcoholic drinks, not rearranging seats, not sitting down all night and even some pronouncements about the music.

“If you can’t handle the music being played, simply go home. This is a celebration not a funeral,” read rule No.8.

The wedding guest who received the invitation shared it in a Reddit post, attracting more than 4000 comments.

“What kind of list is this? It’s too chaotic for me,” said one.

“Doesn’t sound like they’re mature enough to get married,” added another.

“I would absolutely not go,” said a third.

The rules were later re-shared in a Facebook group, leaving many outraged.

“It’s the whole thing for me, seems like an absolutely insufferable couple,” one suggested.

Another said: “The tone is so disrespectful… if you don’t like these people, don’t invite them and do an elopement. Yikes.”

While one added: “Why are they so confrontational?! Like, read the room. It’s a wedding, not a prisoner prom at a jail.”

Another bride-to-be recently started a debate after people labelled her dress code demands, ‘controlling.’

Betti shared a video of her fiancé painting coloured dots under the “dress code” section of their wedding invitations.

The colours were intended to guide the guests as they chose their outfits to wear to the wedding.

The bride captioned the video: “Not one single printer could print your wedding colours accurately enough, so your fiancé painted all the colours on every single invitation”.

People in the comments were divided over the bride having included specific colours under the dress code.

“Why do you want to control what your guests wear? Pretty controlling. Go see a therapist about your issues,” said one.

“Expecting people to spend money on new outfits for your wedding colour scheme is rude,” said another.

“This is so annoying,” said another.
