Brisbane real estate agent Aimee Marsh fired from Ray White for disparaging comments about renters

A Brisbane real estate agent has been fired after a series of social media posts in which she expressed disdain for low-income renters, including that she “can’t wait to sell” the homes they live in.

Aimee Marsh was sacked by Ray White Aspley, in Brisbane’s north, on Tuesday after taking aim at rental tenants in the now-deleted comments on a community Facebook page.

“(They) probably earn $50k a year and (are) envious of me (laugh emoji) I pay twice their wage in tax (smile emoji) or I probably pay their Centrelink wages (laugh emoji),” she said.

Another comment read: “I can’t wait to sell the houses they rent.”

She also called them “nobodies” and “a disgrace and irrelevant”.

7NEWS can also reveal Marsh has also been critical of people who do not own their own home, suggesting those who don’t aren’t willing to make “sacrifices”.

“People like people who sugar-coat crap. I’ll happily tell someone to get a job, if they want to buy a home. How else do you expect to do it?” she said in another series of comments.

“People who are in your situation only need to speak to a broker to get yourself out of said situation.

“There are so many different avenues and schemes for people these days.

“And there are different ways to make living easier but people just don’t want to. They want the premium lifestyle, or things their way.

“In a tough world, people need to learn to make sacrifices to get back on top. Not many people are willing to.”

The posts have been made on a community page for suburbs in Moreton Bay and northern Brisbane, where Marsh worked as a real estate agent.

7NEWS understands the background of Marsh’s comments is a series of spats with some community members who complained of purportedly unpleasant dealings with her.

Her sacking comes after she was last year hailed as one of southeast Queensland’s “top 40 real estate women” in a Courier Mail article.

She told the publication she was a bartender prior to her real estate career, which she said has “allowed me to prosper”.

“I had no intention of real estate and it never crossed my mind until I learned I was good at it and good with people,” Marsh told the newspaper.

“Honestly real estate has made me thick-skinned, I’ve learned so much from it.”

Most of her professional and social media profiles have been scrubbed from the internet. Her deleted Instagram account had spruiked herself as the “#1 Real Estate Agent In Griffin”.

Her LinkedIn account describes her as knowing “how important customer satisfaction is” and priding herself “on her rapport with her customers”.

“With her upbeat and outgoing personality, Aimee is a breath of fresh air when looking to buy or sell a home,” the LinkedIn profile says.

“Aimee finds herself with extensive knowledge on the local area and thus knowing exactly what the local properties have to offer.”

Company response

Ray White has offered Marsh counselling through its employee assistance program.

In a statement, Ray White Queensland chief executive Jason Andrew said Marsh’s reported views “do not align with the values of our business”.

“Our franchisee made the decision to terminate her employment on Tuesday, and the corporate team fully supports this decision,” he said.

“We apologise to anyone who may have been offended as well as any members within our community if these views have offended.”

Andrew said Ray White agents are provided with the company’s social media policy and receive training on the subject.

“With a heritage spanning 121 years, we remain committed to upholding the principles of what is right and wrong,” he said.

“If any customer faces an issue or encounters unacceptable behaviour, we encourage them to engage with us directly.

“Our doors are always open, and we genuinely value the opportunity to listen, learn, and rectify any shortcomings.”
