Bro-tox on the rise: Botox for the bros sees singer Joe Jonas and AFL great Nathan Brown leading the charge

There’s a new trend in town — but it seems it’s not actually that “new” after all.

Cosmetic injectables used to eliminate lines and wrinkles — also known as Botox — have become so popular among men that it’s got its very own name, “Bro-tox”.

And yes, many probably dabble in a jab, but one is for sure, and that’s Joe Jonas.

One-third of the Jonas Brothers, the 34-year-old was a teen heartthrob, dating big names such as Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato.

These days, he’s married to Sophie Turner, and the couple share two children.

Last year, Jonas teamed up with cosmetic injectable brand Xeomin, revealing he’d had work done.

“We’re all getting older, and part of that is being comfortable,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s necessarily something that we have to shy away from.

“We can be open and honest about it and be confident and not really shy away from speaking our truth.”

The American singer even said he thinks the stigma around men getting cosmetic work done is “fading”, insisting they should “do whatever you want”.

Back home in Australia — where Jonas will be touring with his brothers in February — colleagues of AFL star Nathan Brown, 45, are convinced the former Richmond Tiger has had work done.

On Triple M’s Friday Huddle earlier this year, Brown’s radio co-stars noticed he couldn’t move his forehead as well as a “smoothing of the region”.

“There’s no movement in the forehead region,” said journalist Damian Barrett to AFL legend Luke Darcy.

News.com.au reports that Dr Vivek Eranki — founder of Cosmetique, the nation’s largest chain of injectable clinics — said there’s been a “noticeable rise” in male patients wanting Botox in 2023.

“The increase is recent, with some clinics witnessing a growth from almost zero per cent to up to 10 per cent in male patient participation in a relatively short period,” he said.

“The most common areas they target are the forehead and frown lines, reflecting a desire to smooth out facial wrinkles and achieve a more youthful appearance.”

Dr Eranki believes popularity is rising as men, just like women, want to achieve their “aesthetic desires”, which has become more acceptable in recent years.

He believes there is still a “stigma”, but it is “changing”.

“Historically, cosmetic enhancements were associated predominantly with women, and men seeking such treatments might have been perceived as vain or less masculine,” he said.

“This stigma is gradually changing, and men are becoming more open to exploring their aesthetic desires.”
