Carolina Herrera to Receive the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Award

Carolina Herrera will be honored with the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Award for Fashion at the 37th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards (HHAs) at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Opera House on Sept. 5.

Supported by 40 national Hispanic-serving institutions, the HHAs were established by the White House in 1988 to commemorate the creation of Hispanic Heritage Month in America.

“It is an honor to receive the prestigious Hispanic Heritage Award which recognizes the tremendous contributions and legacy of Latinos in the United States and the world,” said Herrera. “I am proud to have the chance to celebrate our rich heritage and achievements with my fellow honorees in September.”

“The Hispanic Heritage Foundation is thrilled to honor the transcendent Carolina Herrera, a true global icon who has represented our community with such tremendous vision, determination and grace throughout her historic career,” said Antonio Tijerino, HHF president and chief executive officer. “We look forward to paying tribute to Carolina and all the honorees through their accomplishments, cultural pride and our great promise to this country and the world.”

Other honorees, performers, hosts and presenters will be named at a later date.

Herrera presented her first women’s ready-to-wear collection at the New York Metropolitan Club in 1981, and the House of Herrera grew into a global luxury brand. The Puig-owned company has a worldwide retail network which includes three wholly owned and operated Carolina Herrera boutiques in New York, Dallas and Palm Beach, Fla., a newly opened beauty store in Nanjing, China, and more than 320 license-operated CH Carolina Herrera stores which feature women’s, men’s, children’s and accessories-focused lifestyle collections. In 2019, Wes Gordon was appointed creative director of Carolina Herrera.

Puig, which owns brands such as Herrera, Rabanne and Jean Paul Gaultier, went public last Friday in Spain’s largest listing since 2015. The IPO valued Puig at 13.9 billion euros and was multiple times oversubscribed, said the company.

Throughout her career, Herrera has won numerous awards including a Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award and the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert from the Council of Fashion Designers of America; the Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion; the Style Awards Designer of the Year; the Fashion Group International Superstar Award; Queen Sofia Spanish Institute Gold Meal; Gold Medal for Fine Arts by King Juan Carlos I, and CFDA Award for Womenswear Designer of the Year.

The HHAs, broadcast nationally on PBS, are considered among the highest honors for Latinos by Latinos and also the only Hispanic programming that honors Latino excellence in a variety of categories and discipline. Community and business leaders, entrepreneurs, STEM-related impactors, educators, innovators, public officials and youth stand alongside celebrities and cultural icons.
