Chargers vs. Vikings odds, expert picks: High scoring expected with Kirk Cousins battling Justin Herbert

Week 3’s early slate of NFL games features an AFC vs. NFC matchup between two fun offenses when the Los Angeles Chargers head to the Midwest for a date with the Minnesota Vikings. The Chargers are a small favorite.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. FOX will provide coverage.

It would appear that the stench of last postseason’s disappointing opening-round exits for both the Chargers and Vikings has lingered into the 2023 season. And assuming this Sunday’s matchup doesn’t end in a tie, one team will leave this game 0-3 and answer even more questions.

Both teams must avoid turning the ball over to turn things around. Minnesota lost the turnover battle in both of their (one-score) losses this season and enter Week 3 minus-four in that department. Interestingly, the Chargers aren’t fairing well in one-score games, either. They’ve played two games and suffered two losses by five points combined.

As likely as a close final score is, a high-scoring contest is more probable. With two talented passers like Justin Herbert and Kirk Cousins and dangerous receivers in Keenan Allen and Justin Jefferson, how could it not be? Considering the facts that Los Angeles’ secondary is one of the weak spots of the team (a league-high 666 passing yards surrendered this season) and that Minnesota hasn’t shown signs of being able to stop the run, it’s easy to see why this game has the highest total in Week 3.
