An iconic pub hugely popular among south of the river locals has announced its sudden closure after nearly 25 years.
Clancy’s Fish Pub Canning Bridge revealed in a Facebook post it would be shutting its doors in days to focus on its bigger spaces.
“After 24 years the team behind ‘the little pub on the corner’ Clancy’s Fish Pub Canning Bridge have decided to leave our little nest on the highway,” the statement said.
“The sturdy little brother in the Clancy’s family of venues has been a much loved local in the heart of Applecross since 2000.
“The news comes as the Fish Pub Brand look to focus on larger family friendly spaces that fit their popular service model, much akin to their Fremantle and City Beach spaces.
The company said they announced the news with pride and a sense of nostalgia after such a long and successful tenure.
Locals shared their devastation over the closure, with many saying they would miss the good atmosphere and tasty food.
“Oh this is devastating! Will really miss our lovely local, awesome staff and food. I’m so sad,” one person said.
Another said: “Big shame. Great pub with good atmosphere and food. Been going since I was young. So sad to hear.”
Others thanked the team for their great work and wished them well on their next venture.
“All the staff at this venue have been so lovely over the past 15 years we have visited. Wishing all the staff all the best,” one said.
“We’ll miss you! Thanks for all your support. Wish you well in your next endeavours. xx,” another added.
Patrons can enjoy the food, drinks and atmosphere for another three days, with May 26 marking the pub’s last official day.
The Clancy’s team has invited friends, staff and regulars to join them for the last drinks on Saturday, May 25 from 5pm.
