College Football Playoff Rankings- Week 10 Top 25 Odds, Picks LSU-Bama

The first College Football Playoff rankings were released Oct. 31, and Ohio State is No. 1. Georgia is No. 2, and the Bulldogs have been ranked No. 1 in the Top 25 Associated Press poll all season including this week. Michigan is No. 3 and Florida State No. 4 in the first CFP rankings and final year of the 4-team College Football Playoff.

Those four teams remain undefeated along with No. 5 Washington, who had the thrilling 36-33 win over No. 6 Oregon on Oct. 14. Air Force (No. 25), James Madison and Liberty are the three other teams that remain undefeated as the calender turns to November and the biggest games including rivalries are on the college football schedule.

There will be five more CFP top 25 rankings with Dec. 3 being the selection date for the College Football Playoff.

The top-4 teams in the first CFP rankings are not likely to all make the CFB Playoff. Since 2014 and the first College Football Playoff, there has been 21 of the 36 teams make the CFP that were ranked in the first CFP poll.

Rivalry Games

Some of the season’s biggest rivalry games take place in November, and it started Friday night with Wyoming defeating Colorado State 24-15 in the Border War battle in Laramie.

Saturday it’s the Bedlam battle between Oklahoma (-6) and Oklahoma State in Stillwater. It’s the final time these two state rivals will play as members of the Big 12 with the Oklahoma Sooners going to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) next season.

LSU at Alabama

Game analysis from Bob Stoll of Dr. Bob Sports, and more Tigers-’Tide insights in Bet the Board podcast. Alabama is a -3 point favorite and the game total opened 57.5 and is up to 62.5.”

“Good Defense Doesn’t Beat Good Offense Anymore,” Alabama coach Nick Saben.

“LSU’s offense is the best in the country by many simple metrics,” Brad Powers. Tigers are No. 1 in yards per play, yards per game, points per game.

Dr. Bob Sports: LSU has the best offense in the nation – and it’s not even close. The Tigers have averaged 8.3 yards per play (yppl) against teams that would combine to allow 5.2 yppl to an average offense and they’ve averaged 7.2 yards per play or more in every game this season – which includes games against good defensive teams Florida State, Mississippi, and Missouri.

Alabama has the best defense that the Tigers have faced. The Crimson Tide are capable of limiting a good offensive team, but Nick Saban’s defenses have always had trouble, relatively, against teams with a running quarterback and Jayden Daniels is an elite runner (612 run yards at 8.4 yards per run, not including sacks).

Alabama should be able to outscore the Tigers, as Jalen Milroe has averaged 7.0 yards per pass play or more in every game he’s played and LSU has allowed 7.3 yards per pass play this season. Bama is also projected to run for over 200 yards at 6.0 yards per rushing play.

The forecast is for no wind or rain, which adds about 3 points, and my math model had this game going over before adjusting for the perfect conditions for scoring.
