COMEDK UGET 2024 set for May 12 as 2K AP students enroll in Karnataka engineering colleges

VISAKHAPATNAM: About 2,200 Andhra Pradesh students enrolled in various private engineering colleges in Karnataka in 2023-24, while 12,000 students applied for the admission test – COMEDK UGET and Uni-GAUGE. While this figure represents a small fraction of the combined enrollment numbers at public and private institutions within Andhra Pradesh, the trend of migration is evident, particularly within the higher socioeconomic groups.
The COMEDK UGET and Uni-GAUGE tests serve as merit-based entrance exams for admission to over 150 engineering colleges in Karnataka and over 50 private and deemed universities across the country.Under the COMEDK UGET, nearly 22,000 seats are available across these 150 colleges. Thirty per cent of the total seats at these COMEDK UGET-participating colleges are reserved for candidates who qualify through the test, and these seats are filled without any additional reservations.
Speaking to the media in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, ERA Foundation CEO P. Muralidhar said, “The COMEDK UGET and Uni-GAUGE entrance examinations will be conducted in 18 cities in Andhra Pradesh. We received nearly 12,000 applications from Andhra Pradesh last year. The application process is currently underway, and the tests will be held on May 12.”
“COMEDK has introduced the COMED KARES innovation hubs to prepare students from participating institutions for the workforce through skill-enhancement courses. Eight innovation hubs, equipped with advanced technologies and high-end equipment, have been established across different locations in Karnataka. The COMEDK UGET and Uni-GAUGE exams are tailored for colleges affiliated with the Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association and Uni-GAUGE member universities offering BE/B.Tech programs. The online exam will be conducted in over 200 cities across India. While we received nearly one lakh applications last year, we expect an increase to 1.2 lakh applications this year,” added Muralidhar.
Applicants can register at www.comedk.org or www.unigauge.com. The application process is open online from February 1 to April 5, 2024.
“At COMEDK, we champion the belief that a student’s merit and aptitude should be the sole guiding factors for their educational journey. Our entrance exam, COMEDK UGET, stands as a testament to our commitment to fairness and objectivity in the testing process,” said Dr Kumar, executive secretary at COMEDK. “More than 150 top-notch colleges admit students through UGET, and we take pride in offering an equitable, inclusive, and non-exploitative platform to connect them with young talent.”
