The rapid increase we have seen in construction costs has been the biggest impediment in recent years to developers commencing major apartment projects in Perth, which has contributed to the sharp decline in supply of new homes.
Pleasingly, the growth in these costs – mostly labour and building supplies – has begun to moderate, although current apartment prices will need to increase further for developers to feel confident in making a final investment decision and start construction on an approved project.
