Cops take down ‘possible shooter’ outside Houston church: reports

Police in Texas reportedly shot a “possible shooter” who may have also had a bomb strapped to her chest as she headed toward a Houston-area church on Sunday.

Two suspects were involved in the near-attack on Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church — and at least one was a woman, according to Channel 3 Now.

“Info remains preliminary, as things remain dynamic,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote in a post on X at about 3:30 p.m.

“It is believed that a possible shooter is down, shot by one of our deputy’s on-scene,” he said. “I’m enroute to the scene.”

Gonzalez’s deputies responded to the megachurch by the Southwest Freeway shortly after 2 p.m., just after a Spanish-speaking service kicked off, according to ABC 13.

A witness told the station that she heard gunshots from the choir room, which sent churchgoers into a panic.

“The whole church started praying and declaring Jesus’ name,” she said. “I was like, ‘This might be the last time I get to pray, that I get to glorify the name of Jesus, so I’m going to do this.’”

Sources told the outlet that cops had incapacitated the female suspect. But authorities feared she had a bomb tied to her chest, so they were proceeding with caution.

The Houston police have asked the public to stay away from the area, the station said.
