Crazy new guide for buying tents shows we’ve all been camping wrong this whole time

A CAMPING expert has revealed the big tent mistake that people always make when they pitch up.

The idea of squeezing into a tent with a friend or family member often puts people off a camping holiday, but that could be because they’re doing it all wrong.

Most people, according to Mountain Warehouse, pick the wrong tent, which makes their trip much worse than it should be.

Instead, campers have been urged to pick a tent one person bigger than the amount of people going on the trip.

For instance, for two people, a three-man tent is required, while three people should pick up a four-man tent for their trip and so on.

This will give those heading out on their holiday enough room to get comfortable, without feeling cramped.

They said: “If there are two of you don’t choose a two-man tent.

“A two-man tent is perfect for one person but once you are both inside, there will be little room for you to both lie down.

“Always choose a tent that is one person bigger than the number of people using it.”

The size of the tent might not be the only mistake that campers are making when they go away either.

Apparently taking an airbed is also a bad idea, with self-inflating mats a better idea, according to other camping experts.

David Scotland owns camping equipment retailer Outdoor World Direct and told Sun Online Travel why airbeds are a bad idea.

He said: “Most campers take airbeds – that extra insulation from the ground is a welcome sniff of what a real bed feels like, but technology has improved and you can do even better.

“We take self-inflating mats now, you have the benefit of insulation from the ground in a much more compact package and with much less effort required.

“As they’re self inflating, you don’t need a pump, you just release a valve or use the stuff sack to push air into the mattress and it does the hard work for you.

“Look out for models that roll into a small pack size, some pack down to smaller than a sleeping bag.”

Meanwhile, these camping etiquette mistakes will make other campers hate you.

And these are the best campsites to visit in the UK.
