Davante Adams slams helmet in Raiders frustration after abysmal pass

Davante Adams was livid on the sideline after Jimmy Garoppolo badly overthrew him on a wide-open look late in the fourth quarter.

It was another frustrating night for Adams, who had just one catch for 11 yards for the Raiders in a 26-14 loss to the Lions at Ford Field.

He was targeted only seven times Monday night.

The errant pass to Adams by Garoppolo cost the Raiders, who dropped their fifth game of the season, a chance to cut into their 12-point deficit with 4:29 left in the fourth quarter.

Adams was open near the Lions’ 25-year line with room to run.

Instead, Las Vegas turned the ball over on downs two plays later.

Things seemed to boil over as Adams slammed his helmet on the bench and then mouthed something in anger as he sat down.

The season has been far from what Adams expected when he came to Las Vegas, as he has only recorded 46 receptions through the first eight weeks of the season.

Garoppolo, who missed last week’s game with an injury, was just 10-for-21 passing for 126 yards and an interception for a 46.9 QB rating

“I don’t know what to say at this moment,” Adams said after the loss, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. “I truly don’t. I wish I had the words to say something that’s not gonna get blown up in the media or taken out of context.”

Adams is averaging 67.4 yards per game, which is a career-worst since 2017.

He hasn’t topped 100 receiving yards since Week 3 and has more than four receptions in a game just once over the past four weeks.

The receiver’s frustrations with what has transpired with the Raiders aren’t likely to go away anytime soon, and one NFL analyst suggested Las Vegas should do Adams a favor and trade him.

“Raiders should do Davante Adams a solid and trade him,” ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III wrote on X. “He deserves it. He came there to play for his favorite team, they got rid of the QB he came there to play with and he has 1 catch tonight. Don’t subject him to anymore of this dysfunction.”
