Deadly detail in woman’s beach photo while walking dog in Jersey

A woman has posted an incredibly rare image of herself at the beach, revealing she was “close to death” as her hair began to stand on end.

Natalie Stevens told the Jersey Weather Chat Facebook group she was out walking her dog along La Rocque beach on the island of Jersey in the UK when the bizarre incident occurred.

While on the beach Stevens said she suddenly felt a “tingly feeling” in her head as “thunder” roared in the distance and her hair suddenly shot up on its ends.

Stevens captured the odd reaction in a strange selfie.

“I could hear the thunder on the French coast,” she said in the post, adding that she felt the static for about 10 to 15 minutes.

The bizarre image caused discussion among Jersey Weather Chat Facebook page members with many warning the woman was “very lucky”.

“FYI, if this happens again it’s a signal that lighting is going to strike you,” one person said.

“You are very lucky, as this is a very sure sign that you are potentially about to be struck by lightning,” another added.

The Bureau of Meteorology states hair may stand on end during a thunderstorm and warns it is a dangerous sign.

“If your hair stands on end or you hear ‘buzzing’ from nearby rocks, fences etc., move immediately,” it warned.

“At night, a blue glow may show if an object is about to be struck (St Elmo’s fire).”

The Bureau added those caught outdoors during a thunderstorm should seek shelter, however, added to never shelter under trees.

“If far from shelter, crouch (alone, feet together), preferably in a hollow,” it said.

“Remove metal objects from your head and body. Don’t lie down flat but avoid being the highest object in the vicinity.”
