Dog spooked by Sunshine Coast storms gets trapped overnight on ledge in Glasshouse Mountains

A dog has spent a night on the ledge of a Queensland mountain after running off scared by thunder and lightning.

The dog went missing from its Glasshouse Mountains home in the Sunshine Coast hinterland during a storm about 6pm on Wednesday.

The owners went looking for their pet and heard barking “from the back of Mt Ngungun”, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services’ Scott Daly said.

“Turns out the dog was about 20m up, on a little ledge,” he told 7NEWS.

The dog remained there overnight “throughout all the thunderstorms and lightning”, Daly said.

Rescuers were able to reach it on Thursday morning.

It took them about 90 minutes to bring it to safety.

“We were able to gain access to that dog, put him in a little harness and bring him down to ground safely,” Daly said.

He said the dog was in “good spirits”.

“Very happy to see its owners and get down to the ground,” he said.
