A man has set himself on fire outside the New York City courthouse hosting Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
The New York Times reports a man was seen throwing pamphlets into the air before dousing himself in accelerant and setting himself on fire around 1.35pm local time.
The incident occurred in Collect Pond Park, across the road from the Lower Manhattan courthouse. The man was standing in an area dedicated to supporters of Mr Trump.
It is reported that some of the pamphlets referenced former US president George W. Bush, former Vice President Al Gore and lawyer David Boles, who represented Mr Gore during the historic 2000 election recount.
The New York Police Department says the man’s motivations are unknown.
NYPD officers rushed to the man’s aid to try and extinguish the flames before he was taken away in an ambulance.
It’s understood he’s being treated in hospital for his injuries and remains in a critical condition.
