A NUMBER of flights were suspended at Edinburgh Airport this morning over a runway emergency.
Passengers faced travel chaos and have been hit with huge delays as planes were seen circling the capital waiting to land.
More flights were also queued up on the runway waiting to take off.
Edinburgh Airport bosses said teams are carrying out repairs on a “small breakup” on the runway, Edinburgh Live reported.
FlightRadar showed Ryanair, EasyJet, Qatar Airways and Air Canada flights waiting on the runway for permission to take off.
A number of passengers asked staff at the airport on social media why planes were circling and why many were waiting on the runway.
Staff replied on X saying repairs were being carried out on the runway.
And thanked passengers for their patience.
They added: “Arrivals and departures were suspended as repairs were carried out on the runway – it’s now operational again.
“We know it can be frustrating but we always prioritise safety, thanks for your patience.”
It comes after a nationwide glitch had passengers stuck in massive queues at Edinburgh Airport earlier this week.
Pictures on social media showed massive queues in front of Border Force passport gates on Tuesday.
And tens of thousands of other travellers were reported to be trapped in queues at London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and at Manchester.
It is understood to be connected to a national IT problem involving in the E-Gates.
