Ex-Lion Cameron Sutton turns self in amid domestic violence allegations

Former Lions corner Cameron Sutton turned himself into authorities Sunday after weeks of avoiding law enforcement, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Sutton has been wanted since March 7 in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident that occurred in a home in Lutz, Florida.

An arrest warrant was issued that same day.

Sutton is facing serious charges, which include a charge of domestic battery by strangulation, which is a third-degree felony and carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, ESPN reported.

The sheriff’s office released a brief clip of Sutton surrendering to authorities at the Orient Road Jail wearing a white long-sleeve shirt and mustard-colored shorts.

Sutton arrived at the jail to surrender at 8:24 p.m., according to a news release by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, nearly a week after his attorney had notified police that he would turn himself in.

“After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Domestic violence has no place in our community, and no one is above the law here in Hillsborough County. My thoughts are with this woman as she continues to heal from this man’s gruesome actions.”

Sutton had been at the Lions facility when the organization found out about the warrant and they had advised him to turn himself in, team president Rod Wood told Fox 2 at the NFL owners meeting.

They had suggested that he “do the right thing” before the front office met later in the day and opted to release him.

The outlet also reported that a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office indicated that evidence suggested that there were wounds on the alleged victim’s body.

Sutton had one interception and 65 combined tackles in the 2023-24 regular season.
