Fake marksheets on sale, Mumbai University to file complaint with cyber wing

Mumbai: After receiving a complaint about fake marksheets being sold on a social media platform for Rs 10,000- Rs 12,000, the Mumbai University has decided to file a complaint with the Mumbai Police’s cyber wing. The university has received information from a Pune-based activist who managed to get a BSc marksheet for a couple of thousands by contacting the number mentioned in the advertisement released on Meta’s Facebook platform.The university has taken serious cognisance of the matter and plans to file the complaint in a day or two.
In a statement issued by the university on Wednesday evening, the administration mentioned that the marksheet copy received by the university is fake and students should not fall prey to such online scams. The Pune activist, who noticed the advertisement on Facebook, contacted the number provided and managed to get the marksheet on his WhatsApp after making an advance payment of Rs 2,000, said an official.
The university official said that the B Sc semester VI marksheet dated April 2023, that was sent to the person, was signed by the previous director of examinations and was also fake. The official said that the marksheet was created using photoshop or other online tools. The administration acted on the complaint received from the activist. The statement also added that the university will take legal action against people selling and buying such fake marksheets.
