Despite calls for family scandal-plagued Miss Universe Australia to hand back her crown, Moraya Wilson has taken out third in the 2023 pageant.

Wilson was selected for the top ten after she stunned in a bandeau bikini in the swimsuit competition.

Camila Avella (Colombia), Isabella García-Manzo (El Salvador), Sheynnis Palacios (Nicaragua), Camila Escribens (Peru), Michelle Dee (Philippines), Karla Guilfú (Puerto Rico), Athenea Pérez (Spain), Anntonia Porsild (Thailand) and Diana Silva (Venezuela) were also picked for a top ten spot.

Ultimately though Sheynnis Palacios from Nicaragua took out the top spot and was crowned Miss Universe 2023.

The beauty competition broke ground this year by featuring its first mothers, plus-sized and two transgender models.

Earlier this month, there was pressure for Wilson to hand back her crown after News.com.au revealed she was the daughter of two bankrupt property developers linked to a $45 million controversy.

Companies run by her parents, Anton and Melinda Wilson, owed more than $45 million to creditors following multiple company liquidations, including approximately $21 million to the tax office.

The information was obtained from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
