Five religious controversies for Christians

Christianity is one of the world’s largest religions, according to Pew Research Centre.

However, that doesn’t mean all faithful people agree with one another.

Issues like the movie Jerusalema and the show The Smurfs have caused disagreements before.

Even though people share a religion, Christians don’t necessarily share the same opinions.

Here’s a look at five religious controversies that have happened before.

Five Religious controversies

Christians don’t have to agree on everything, and sometimes people don’t agree at all.

For example, the movie Jerusalema was criticized for its portrayal of Johannesburg. However, it was also criticized for its pseudoreligious title.

Christians also disagree about the Harry Potter series.

Here’s a look at five religious controversies that had Christians talking.

‘Jerusalema’

Jerusalema (2008) is a South African movie, which explored a fictional criminal underworld.

However, some Christians decided that they weren’t happy with the movie’s title – a Biblical reference.

Gangsters Paradise is its alternative title.

Do you agree on this issue?

‘The Smurfs’ and Christianity

The Smurfs is a famous cartoon, however, it’s also drawn controversy from Christians about its content.

Christians claimed that The Smurfs portrayed occult themes, like Gargamel with a pentagram.

Ozzy Osbourne and Christianity

Ozzy Osbourne is an internationally famous metal musician.

Someone claimed that the song Suicide Solution caused someone’s death. However, Ozzy Osbourne defended the song in court, and won the case.

It was a famous case, also written about in the LA Times.

Ozzy Osbourne has said that he identifies as a Christian.

Harry Potter and Christianity

Harry Potter is a series thousands, possibly millions, of people love.

However, Christians don’t necessarily agree that it’s good viewing or reading material.

Some Christians claimed Harry Potter glorifies witchcraft. On the other hand, many people defended the series as purely fictional.

Its author is Christian.

Taylor Swift and Christianity

Taylor Swift is internationally famous.

In 2023, The South African news wrote about her Eras tour.

A bizarre fan theory claims that Taylor Swift is a clone of Zeena Schreck. However, this ‘fan theory’ has been floating around for several years, and continued during Taylor’s tour.

Beatles fans had a similar theory, claiming that their singer Paul McCartney was replaced by a doppelganger.
