A mysterious new Mustang is on the horizon and it promises to be fun to drive

Ford celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Mustang with a series of mostly underwhelming announcements, but it appears one of the more interesting ones flew under the radar. It was the revelation that a new variant will be introduced in 2025.
Towards the end of the presentation at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Ford had a “one more thing” moment as they gave a look at something coming next year. As you can see in the clip, Ford’s General Manager of Enthusiast Vehicles revealed the company has “another addition to the Mustang stable.”

Matt Simpson didn’t say much about it, but described the car as an “amazing new addition to the family.” He also suggested the model would be fun to drive, but that’s to be expected.
That’s not much to go on and neither is the teaser image, which shows a Mustang hidden beneath a yellow sheet. While we probably shouldn’t read too much into it, the picture suggests the model will have a relatively tame design and a modest rear spoiler.
There’s no word on what Ford has up their sleeve, but fans are undoubtedly looking forward to replacements for the GT350 and GT500. Ford also announced a hybrid pony car way back in 2018 and said it would be “all about delivering V8-like performance with more low-end torque.”
The model was rumored to be launched in 2025, but the car was reportedly scrapped. Since that report surfaced in 2022, Ford has had a change of heart and embraced hybrids once again.
Earlier this month, Ford delayed an assortment of electric vehicles and announced plans to expand their hybrid lineup. Notably, the automaker said “By the end of the decade, the company expects to offer hybrid powertrains across its entire Ford Blue lineup in North America.” That would seemingly include the Mustang as Ford Blue focuses on vehicles with internal combustion engines.
