Former Liberal MP Ken Wyatt says he was described as ‘our token Aboriginal’ in Abbott Government

Former WA Liberal MP Ken Wyatt has spoken out about the “challenge” of being an Indigenous man during Tony Abbott’s leadership, revealing Coalition staffers described him as “our token Aboriginal”.

Mr Wyatt, who went on to become the first Indigenous cabinet minister under Scott Morrison, said as a rookie MP he was side-lined from internal discussions on First Nations issues despite his deep experience.
