Gamut Gallery offers a night of art, music at Visage Opening

Earlier this year, Francesca Bernardi took the reins as gallery director and co-owner of Gamut Gallery, in partnership with her new co-owners  Kasi Nadine and Brian Oreck. They’re following in the footsteps of previous owners Cassie Garner and Jade and James Patrick, who have carved out a niche with Gamut, cultivating a social space and center for art.

Gamut differs a bit from a lot of storefront galleries in the Twin Cities. Their opening events are really more like parties. For example, their upcoming opening features DJ Paul Frett, and there’s a small cover charge unless you are a member. Most galleries don’t charge a cover like this, but I have to hand it to Gamut that they’ve found a way to make this model work. It’s really not so different from paying a cover to go to any other party or special event. And Gamut’s chic space and quaint patio make for a lovely setting for a spring evening.

Plus, the artists on view for their upcoming portrait show includes some really fabulous local names, among them Hend al-Mansour, Leslie Barlow, Kao Lee Thao and Russ White, to name a few. The concept of the show focuses on what portraiture means in the digital age. Amidst selfie culture and AI manipulation, how does the portrait emerge today in the hands of Minnesota and regional artists? Friday, May 10 from 7 p.m. to 10 pm. at Gamut Gallery ($10 in advance, $15 day of). More information here
