Giovanni Consort wound back four centuries in a timeless rendition of Requiem for an Empress at Guildford and South Perth this weekend.

The 1603 Mass for Empress Maria of Austria, by Spanish composer Tomas Luis de Victoria, wove its early-modern magic in the unadorned acoustics of Guildford Town Hall; 12 voices reinforced by new artistic director Nicholas Dinopoulos, and Peter Moore’s curtal — a Renaissance bassoon.
