When Chevrolet announced the sixth-generation Camaro was retiring at the end of the 2024 model year, officials were adamant the car would eventually return. In particular, they told us “While there is no immediate successor, this is not the end of [the] Camaro’s story.”
While the final model rolled off the assembly line in December, we’re starting to learn more about the Camaro’s next chapter. Speaking to MotorTrend, GM President Mark Reuss said he wants the car to ‘return to its roots’ and be an affordable vehicle with wide appeal. He went on to suggest the Camaro could return as an EV with a base price similar to the Equinox EV.

That particular model starts at $34,995 and this would make the Camaro EV significantly more expensive than its predecessor, which began at $30,900. However, as the publication noted, the vehicle would presumably qualify for a $7,500 tax credit that could cut the price to around $27,495.
To help keep prices down, the Camaro EV could focus more on style than performance. That might upset the purists, but the V8-powered muscle car started at $40,395 and climbed to $73,695 in ZL1 guise.
Little else is known about the next-generation Camaro and the publication said they “get the sense that the car-versus-crossover debate hasn’t been settled within GM” yet. That being said, even if the Camaro returns as a car, it likely won’t be a coupe as that segment has all but evaporated.
Instead, the Camaro could return as a four-door coupe. This could make a lot of sense, especially with the death of the Malibu.
However, crossovers are king and Ford blazed a trail with the Mustang Mach-E. As a result, a Camaro crossover would be appealing to beancounters, although it would be tough fitting it in between the Blazer EV and Equinox EV.
Given that a lot of things are still up in the air, it doesn’t sound like the Camaro is returning anytime soon.
