A newly married woman has fallen out with her mum after a wedding disaster.
The newlyweds spent around $20,000 on the wedding but did not provide guests with food, drinks, or entertainment.
The bride created a day she loved, but the guests did not have the same experience.
A cake was provided …. however, it was FAKE and inedible.
A year later, the bride confronted her mum after finding out her sister and guests had made a running joke about the disaster of a wedding.
“Am I the a**hole for being honest and telling my daughter that her wedding is a running joke of what not to do if you marry in our family/friend group?” the mother posted to Reddit.
The mum expanded on the post, saying the couple spent a large chunk of the money on the bride’s $6000 dress, photographer, and venue.
Guests could buy their food and drink, but none was provided by the bride and groom.
The mum explained that her other daughter is getting married, and she has requested that the wedding be unlike her sisters’.
“My daughter [the bride] asked what she meant by that, and I was honest with her. That her wedding wasn’t a good experience for guests, and it is a running joke at this point with family/friends.
“This caused an argument and she called me a jerk by the end. I pointed out all the issues I had with her wedding, and she thinks I’m being cruel,” the mum wrote.
Users were divided on whether or not the mum was a**hole.
“If I go to a wedding and they expect me to pay for food and drinks, I am taking my wedding gift back. It’s so trashy to host a party and not cater to the guests at all,” one user wrote.
Another said, “Unless something is missing, OOP has to take some responsibility for raising someone who thinks that throwing this wedding, with zero warning to guests, was a good idea.”
