Hairstylists recommend their favourite products and the autumn trends they’re seeing take off

I’m as guilty as the next woman who loves to change her hair colour, cut and tone in line with the seasons (and I usually pay for it in dryness).

But the celebrity hairstylists at Salon HER in Sydney have curated the ultimate set of products to help stave off the dehydration even as winter approaches — and outlined their favourite hair trends in the process.

Founder of the salon Michael Kelly is loving jaw length square-shaped bobs with a very minimal soft layer being worn as naturally as possible, and complimented with glossy, healthy colour work.

And in line with that chic look he’s pressing play on using the Kerastase Elixr Ultime ($80) which can be used in a number of ways to add hydration and shine.

The product, which you can pick up at Adore Beauty, is the “secret to model-like locks” and can be used as a pre-shampoo treatment, heat protectant and leave in conditioner.

Hairdresser Jake Lightfoot is seeing warm, big and bouncy hair have its moment in the sun, as well as blondes adding more “depth” to their pre-existing colour.

To help with that bounce Jake uses the Oribe Volumising Mousse ($63) combined with the Kerastase Nutritive Eight Hour Night Serum ($78).

“They are the best products for a big blow out as they hydrate and add volume for your style to last all night long,” he said.

Britt Fordham is seeing creamy nude blondes and cool chocolate hues in her salon chair this autumn and she’s also treating them with Jake’s favourite Kerastase Nutritive Eight Hour Night Serum ($78).

To help the hair stay healthy from the inside out she opts for Aede hair supplements ($66).

For Clodagh Egan it’s the French-inspired “cheekbone” bob that’s having its rightful moment as the weather cools off, although she sees a variation of it take off every year.

“My go-to hair product this winter is Kerastase PREMÈIRE Serum Filler Fondamental ($103). Its amazing qualities include being anti frizz, 72-hour anti humidity and 220 degree heat protection… I mean what more can they give you in one bottle of goodness?” She told Best Picks.

“My second go-to is Redken’s Super Shine Spray ($40) and it does exactly that! Our hair can become dull and lack its normal shine so this amazingness will inject instant shine and glow.”

For Tracy Williams styling with texture and round, voluminous curly cuts are in.

She’s been using Oribe Straight Away Smoothing Blowout Cream ($72) to smooth the hair while still allowing you to create volume in your blowouts.

“It is also suitable for all hair textures. I especially love using it on thick, curly and coily hair textures. Another bonus is that it has heat protection up to 232 degrees and it controls frizz and flyaways, which for my textured hair girls is a must,” she said.

Second Oribe product on her radar? The Intense Conditioner for Moisture & Control ($82).

“This conditioner nourishes and moisturises thick and curly hair beautifully,” Tracy said.

“Hair always feels so silky and smooth, especially when used together with the Moisture & Control Shampoo. A bonus with this conditioner is that it also provides effortless detangling for thicker or coarser hair textures! So a WIN all around.”

For Nasser Halbouni it’s the short bobs reigning supreme but not only that.

“I’m seeing sooo many fringes,” the hairdresser told Best Picks.

For Nasser, Oribe’s Royal Blowout ($39 for a travel size) is great for keeping hair super healthy and protecting against heat.

It also cuts down your blowdrying time by 40 per cent.

To finish a look he uses Oribe Thick Dry Finishing Spray ($66) which adds amazing texture to the hair without that overwhelming “gritty” feeling.
