Harry Maguire and Kyle Walker withdraw from England squad due to injury

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and Manchester City captain Kyle Walker have withdrawn from the England squad after sustaining injuries during the 1-0 defeat to Brazil on Saturday.

Maguire, 31, and Walker, 33, both started the game at Wembley. However, Walker sustained an injury early in the first half, being replaced by Ezri Konsa after 20 minutes, while Maguire was replaced by Lewis Dunk in the 67th minute.

The pair have left the England camp as a precaution and will now be assessed by their respective clubs, missing the game against Belgium on Tuesday.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who was an unused substitute on Saturday, has also withdrawn from the squad as a precaution.

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford and Man City defender Rico Lewis have both moved across from the under-21 squad to join the senior side.

Man City face league leaders Arsenal on March 31 while Man United travel to Brentford on March 30.

The Athletic previously reported that Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka had withdrawn from the England squad earlier this week as a precaution.

Saka, 22, was named in Gareth Southgate’s initial 25-man squad but has returned to Arsenal for the remainder of the international break.

Southgate also has confirmed that striker Harry Kane will miss England’s match against Belgium due to an ankle injury.

The England captain, 30, sat out the defeat to Brazil due to the problem he picked up after colliding with a goalpost late on in Bayern Munich’s 5-2 Bundesliga win over Darmstadt on March 16.

England face Belgium at Wembley on Tuesday.
