Getting to Alexandria from Washington, D.C.

Alexandria is just a 25-drive from the hustle and bustle of downtown D.C., making it a great day trip for travelers to the U.S. capital. To get there, you have a few options—drive (or opt for an Uber, Lyft or taxi), ride the Metro’s Yellow or Blue line to the King St–Old Town station and hop a free shuttle bus (or walk) the rest of the way to Old Town, or take the water taxi from The Wharf straight to Old Town. Either way, you’ll catch glimpse of the shops, architecture, squares and parks this part of Northern Virginia is known for, and get to enjoy a lovely walk before or after your dinner.

Making a Staycation or Overnight Trip Out of It

If you plan on taking advantage of Restaurant Week prices for a few nights, there are plenty of hotels to choose from in Alexandria’s historic Old Town neighborhood, especially if you’re into using hotel points and loyalty programs to save on your stay.

IHG One Rewards enthusiasts will want to check out Hotel Indigo Old Town Alexandria, the only hotel located directly on the waterfront. Marriott Bonvoy fans can choose from two properties right along King Street—The Alexandrian and the Morrison House—while Hilton Honors and World of Hyatt lovers can opt for several Hilton and Hyatt options closer to the King St–Old Town Metro stop.
