One of the forgotten forefathers of Western Australia’s vast mining treasures — businessman Don Rhodes — has taken centre stage, as his company makes a legal bid to snare hundreds of millions of dollars from the contested Hope Downs project.

Lawyers for DFD Rhodes — the company left behind by the earth-mover and truck driver — stood up in WA’s Supreme Court on Monday to argue their rights over the mines currently shared by Hancock Prospecting and Rio Tinto.
