House That! West Coast Eagles star Elliot Yeo a pro when it comes to property investment

Eagles and property go together like sherrins and footy studs, so it is not surprising to see midfielder Elliot Yeo list an investment property on the rental market.

Eagles’ players get investment advice organised through the team in a bid to help them secure their finances for life after their relatively short-lived football careers.

And 30-year-old Yeo seems to have taken this advice to heart, with three investment properties as well as his Salter Point residence.

His four-bedroom rental property on Edgecumbe St, Como, has just hit the rental market for $900 a week, up 38 per cent from the $650 weekly rental price advertised just over two-and-a-half years ago.

It is above Como’s median rental price of $790 a week, but on par with rental increases in the area over the same period of time.

Back in the more innocent days of 2018, when Elliot bought the Como house as well as the one on its rear block, both homes were bringing $900 a week in combined rent.

What a difference six years, a global pandemic and a rental crisis makes.

For those who would like Yeo — a dual All-Australian and 2018 premiership star — as their landlord, the other information they need to know about the house is that it has two bathrooms, two living spaces and a double car port.

Built in the 1990s, it is walking distance to the Canning Bridge train station.

It seems property runs in his blood, with uncle Shaun Yeo heading up real estate agency Jones Ballard, which advised him to bump up the rental price recently.

The professional advice may be why he bought in the development zone, on land earmarked for four-storey abodes. Clearly he knew to buy property where the value was tied primarily to the land.

Well played Yeo, well played.
